Synagogue of Genoa

The Synagogue of Genoa, inaugurated in 1935, is located in via Bertora 6 in Genoa. It is with the synagogues of Trieste, Rome and Livorno one of the four great monumental synagogues of the twentieth century in Italy and together with the small Orthodox synagogue of Rijeka (now in Croatia) one of the few built in the Fascist era.

Small groups of Jews were present in Genoa especially from 1658, when the city became a free port. In the areas assigned to them as ghetto, three small oratories succeeded each other, now disappeared: in vico del Campo, in piazza dei Tessitori and near the walls of Malapaga.
