Synagogue Museum Sant'Anna

The Great Synagogue, built in the 13th century (later transformed into the church of Sant'Anna) houses the Jewish section of the Diocesan Museum of the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie.

The synagogue of Scola Grande stands on what was the main street of the ancient Jewish quarter of Trani. It was built in 1246-47, in the period of maximum splendor of the Jewish community which, already around 1160, had as many as 200 fires, as reported in his diary by the rich merchant Benjamin da Tudela, who arrived here in Trani during his long journey.

In the district where the Jews had settled, in fact, there were four synagogues, two of which were already destroyed in 1700. The synagogue of Scola Grande is one of the two surviving buildings with the Scolanova synagogue.
