Museum of the Risorgimento - Civic Museum of Mazzetti Palace


The Civic Museum of Mazzetti Palace,  historic residence and prestigious sign of the success of the Mazzetti family in Asti: it hosts civic collections, prestigious exhibitions and creative workshops for children.

For the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, the Municipality of Asti has carried out a double operation: the reopening of the Museum of the Risorgimento in Palazzo Ottolenghi and the start, precisely in function of this set-up, of an overall project for the recovery of the historic building . In line with this perspective, the exhibition has combined the best legibility of the pieces with the intact legibility of the architectural spaces that host them. In addition, the new location of the Risorgimento collections has also physically welded the ideal link already underlying content and container: in fact Leonetto Ottolenghi, the best-known exponent of the family of Jewish origin that gives the Palace its name, is responsible for the original nucleus of the Museum, that is the portraits of the protagonists of the Risorgimento and the paintings of the battles, which he wanted and financed for the celebrations the fiftieth anniversary of the Albertine Statute (1898).

The museum exhibition is structured on the ground floor. A staircase directly connects the rooms on the ground floor with the air-raid shelter (second basement) and with the rooms in the first basement. Both the air raid shelter and the rooms on the first underground floor do not They can be reached by the physically disabled. For these people, a multimedia station, located in the hall on the ground floor, illustrates everything that is visible in the basement and a video offers a virtual tour of the air-raid shelter and the rooms on the first basement floor.
