Giobatta Gianquinto Palasport - Arsenale Palasport

"Giobatta Gianquinto" Palasport (Arsenale Palasport ), a rare example of brutalist architecture in the heart of Venice, a few steps from the entrance to the Biennale.

Designed and built in 1977 by the architect Enrico Capuzzo and the engineer Giandomenico Cocco, the Palasport is attributable to Brutalism, an architectural current which is undergoing a general revaluation, which has made the use of accentuated plastic forms and the béton brut ( Le Corbusier) its key to international recognition.

A large volume almost hidden in the dense building fabric of the city following the demolition of some nineteenth-century appurtenances in the Arsenale area.

The project has rough, essential characteristics, and at the same time not devoid of an emotional tone of their own, of the Venetian architectural space, and is articulated, even from the standpoint of the setting, in direct contact with the walls and surfaces of raw concrete.
