The Sila Ship - Museum Narrator of Emigration

The Museum-Narrator of Emigration in the province of Cosenza is a project of the Napoli Novantanove Foundation, curated by Gian Antonio Stella, inaugurated in 2005, and is housed in the ancient and beautiful cow's house - restored by Arch. Sila Barracco - in the Old Calabria Park, in the heart of the Sila area, intends to help fill an unjustifiable gap in historical and civil memory in a region that has experienced, more than others, the dramatic experience of the migratory movement.

A place that intends to present itself as a dynamic cultural structure - underlining, alongside the epic sentimental quality of the exodus, the positive value of "openness", in every sense, represented by migratory movements - certainly cannot ignore that the history of migration continues, and that, albeit with reversed roles, Italy continues to be an important part of it.

In July 2013, the new MARE MADRE section was opened, dedicated to immigration, it is a duty in this region which, from a land of emigration, is reliving the dramatic experience on the contrary and becomes a land of welcome and immigration.

Upstairs, a large room equipped for conferences, lectures and screenings on the subject, another, the library always updated with everything that has been written on Italian emigration and migrants in general, plus a collection, always on the subject, of films and documentaries.

Finally, a third room hosts some internet stations where users will be guided, thanks to a series of links, to discover the boundless and often unknown world of Italians scattered from Australia to Brazil, from Canada to Argentina.

There is no shortage, for the well-being of guests, a cozy café with tasting of typical products and a terrace immersed in the Silan landscape, also suitable for receptions.
