MUFAR - Museum of the Royal Ironworks of Mongiana

The Museum of the Royal Bourbon Ironworks or MUFAR is a museum of industrial archeology in the municipality of Mongiana (Vibo Valentia) in Calabria, inaugurated on 23 October 2013 and focused on the history of the iron and steel center of Mongiana created during the Bourbon kingdom between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries century.

In 1872, the iron and steel activities definitively ceased due to lack of orders, the industrial buildings were gradually abandoned. Resold at the end of the 19th century, they became homes and warehouses.

Among these, the former Mongiana Arms Factory, rediscovered at the end of the 70s in a state of complete decay, has been the subject of a careful recovery process. In October 2013 the architectural restoration was completed with the setting up of the Museum of the Royal Bourbon Ironworks.

The project was overseen by RA Consulting srl, coordinated by the architect Gennaro Matacena.
